Terms of Use & Acceptable Use

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use & Acceptable Use govern your use of the Workbench desktop application and this website.

By downloading, installing, or using Workbench you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not install or use the software.

In the app, acceptance is recorded locally with a timestamp and terms version.

2. Local-first software

Workbench runs on your computer. Sessions, settings, history, and vault data are stored locally on your device, not on Workbench servers.

It reads and writes files in the repositories and workspaces you point it at, stores its own data in a local vault, and starts agent CLI processes on your behalf.

You are responsible for backups, securing your machine, and the repositories you open. Review agent changes before you commit or push them.

3. Agent tools & autonomous actions

Workbench can start coding agent CLIs (Cursor Agent, Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and similar tools you configure).

Agents may run tools, edit files, execute shell commands, and continue autonomously when you enable features such as Loop mode or send follow-up messages.

You remain responsible for reviewing agent output, testing changes, and deciding what to commit, push, or merge.

4. Git identity & GitHub access

When you ship work from a session, git commits may use the name and email configured in that repository or your global git config.

GitHub features (listing repos, clones, pull requests, review comments) use only GitHub accounts you explicitly link in Settings.

Workbench does not silently use every account logged into the gh CLI on your machine. You choose which accounts to link and confirm each one.

5. Third-party services

Workbench integrates with tools you install and accounts you link, including git, the GitHub CLI, and agent CLIs.

When an agent runs, your prompts and the relevant file contents are sent to that provider by their CLI, under that provider's own terms and privacy policy. We are not a party to that relationship and do not control it.

6. Acceptable use

Use Workbench only on repositories and systems you are authorized to access.

Do not use agent automation to violate laws, licenses, employer policies, or third-party terms.

Agent and MCP tool output may be wrong or incomplete. Verify before relying on it in production.

7. Licence

Workbench is provided to you free of charge for personal and commercial use.

You may install it on as many machines as you control, and you may inspect, build, and modify the source where it is made available to you.

You may not remove or obscure attribution notices, or redistribute the application in a way that implies it is your own product or that it is endorsed by us.

8. No warranty and limitation of liability

Workbench is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

AI agents can produce incorrect, insecure, or destructive changes. Workbench gives you tools to inspect and stop that work, but does not guarantee correctness of anything an agent produces.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any lost data, lost profits, service interruption, or indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Workbench, including data loss, security incidents, or damages from agent actions you approve or enable.

Keep backups and use version control. Workbench operates on real repositories on your machine.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected by the revision date on this page and, in the app, by a new terms version.

Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. The app may ask you to accept again when the terms version changes.
